Crude montan wax
Crude montan wax is a fossil vegetable wax that is produced from bitumen-rich raw lignite using a special extraction process. The raw montan wax is brown-black in color. A classic montan wax melts at around 75 to 90 ° C and, due to its chemical composition, belongs to the real waxes. Montan wax consists of esters of monobasic acids such as montanic acid. In addition to this acid, montan wax also contains resins and asphalt. The black color and the typical smell make it an unmistakable special wax. It is most comparable to the dark, unbleached carnauba wax type 4.
In its raw form, the product can only be used for technical applications. Bleached montan waxes, which can be industrially produced from this wax, have other, diverse uses.
Due to its high and exact melting point and easy polishability, this wax is used in a variety of ways. Classic uses are in shoe polishes and carbon paper. Raw montan wax is also used in modern TTR (thermo transfer ribbon). The exact melting point and the high hardness are used as a good basis for an accurate transfer of the inks.
