Spooled candle wick, flat wick FLD
We offer here a very classical flat wick for drawing candles. This wick is easy to use, because it has no special direction. It is an unwaxed, bleached flat wick made from cotton, which is particularly suitable for candles made of paraffin. The wick material is not treated with borax and tested according to RAL standards.
The FLD wick has a good wick stand and forms little to no slugs. The wicks are manufactured in Germany.
Most candles are cast with a flat wick such as this, as both ends can be used as candle top or bottom. An important difference between this wick and our round wick BWR and flat wick STG, which are more stable due to their special direction but are not suitable for drawing candles.
Usage
These flat wicks can be used to pull candles. Therefore simply dip the wick on both sides and two candles are created on one wick. These flat wicks are suitable for wax granules, wax pastilles and wax slabs made of paraffin wax.
For other candle projects this wick material must be waxed before it is actually used as a wick. If the mould has an opening for the wick at the tip, thread the wick through it, make a knot and seal the hole with sealing compound or adhesive wax. Then put the other end (which will be at the base of the candle) between two shashlik sticks, which are held together with rubber bands at the end of each stick, through the middle of the wick and pull to make the wick taut and straight. Alternatively you can also knot the wick e.g. at a needle.
For container candles you can attach a metal base to the lower end of the wick, to ensures a safe stand. Now place the candle wick in the mould and then pour the wax into the mould. Wax adhesive plates for candles can be used to prevent the wick from moving during production.
Versions
We offer the candle wick in 3 varieties:
- FLD 3 x 8
- FLD 3 x 10

Hints
There are many factors that have an influence on the burning behaviour of a candle. The main ones include the type of wax, the melting point of the wax, the thickness of the candle, and the addition of colour and scents. Test your candle project with our wicks before ordering a large number of wicks.
