We'll show you how to make really cool outdoor candles yourself with our fiberglass wicks! Our fiberglass wicks are permanent wicks that you can use with all candle waxes. These outdoor candles are also the perfect opportunity to recycle leftover candles. As the fiberglass wick hardly burns, you can refill the wax again and again - perfect for making a new candle from candle scraps! The flame is quite windproof & brings a special atmosphere to your garden for long summer evenings!
Important! The fireproof container should be at least as high as the wick - our container was a little too shallow! Our bowl was 17cm wide and melted completely to the rim.
What you need:
- GFD7 glass fiber wick
- paraffinwax
- Natural waxes (we melted down leftovers)
- Also: water bath, hot air dryer, fireproof container
1. melting
Melt any natural wax, paraffin wax e.g. 58-60 or collected candle scraps (either natural wax or paraffin wax). You will need a larger quantity to fill the bowl. If you are working with candle scraps, be sure to fish the wicks out of the liquid wax!
2. pour the base
Allow the wax to cool to approx. 50°C and prepare the container in the meantime. To do this, fix the wick to the metal in the center of the bowl with wax stickers. Preheat the bowl with a hot air gun and slowly pour the liquid wax into the bowl.
3. hardening & lighting
Due to their size, it is best to leave the candles to harden for approx. 2 days. Then you can light them outside on the patio. Please observe the usual safety precautions. The flame is significantly larger than with conventional candles. Please never leave your outdoor candle burning unattended and keep it away from children and pets.
Fiberglass wick info
This wick has been specially developed for outdoor use. It is a sealed fiberglass wick 7 cm long with a metal nut around 1 cm high as a base. This base ensures stability in the liquid wax. The wick produces a large, wind-resistant flame - ideal for outdoor use. Glass fiber wicks are also called permanent wicks because, unlike conventional wicks, they hardly burn themselves and therefore retain their length. For this reason, they can only be used in refillable containers and not in normal candles. Thanks to its low requirements, the wick can be used with any of our candle waxes. Both leftover candles without wicks and new paraffins can be used. Our natural waxes soy wax NatureWax® C-1, NatureWax® C-3 or our rapeseed wax 5761 are also particularly popular.
