Our sunflower-olive-wax C-3S is made from 100% vegetable raw materials, is produced in the EU and is a very good alternative to soy wax C3. It is perfect for candles in jars or tins and also works great with fragrances. We explain how it works here.
First, make sure you line the work area with a towel or similar. Get everything you need for a water bath ready, as well as the sunflower olive wax, wicks and jars/tins, and you're ready to go. You can simply place the jars on the heater while the wax is melting to preheat them.
We recommend that you start with a small amount - practice makes perfect!
1. melting
Heat the wax to 70°C (not higher than 90°C!). Stir regularly and slowly while melting. This works best in a water bath. Be careful not to melt the wax too quickly or too hot.
2. add fragrance
The maximum amount of fragrance that can be added varies between 8 and 10% depending on the oil. Some ingredients of fragrance oils can react with the crystallisation of natural waxes. Tests should therefore always be carried out beforehand.
Stir the selected fragrance completely in the liquid wax at approx. 70°C.
3. pour
Allow the liquid wax to cool slightly (to approx. 50-55°C). The environment and vessels should not be too cold (approx. 20°C) and the wax should not be too hot. It is best to attach the wicks to the bottom of the jar with adhesive wax plates. Do not pour the wax into the jars too quickly. You can easily get rid of air bubbles by tapping the container lightly on the base in between. To stabilise the wicks as they cool, place a fork over the jar to support the wick.
4. pour a second layer
If small cracks or irregularities appear, add a thin layer of wax shortly after hardening.
5. cool down
Leave the candles to harden for 12 hours at room temperature. It is best to place them on a cooling grid with sufficient distance between them.
6. give away or light them
The homemade candles are super easy to give to others or you can light them for your own pleasure. If you have used fragrance and there is still wax left over, you can use it to make scented melts - simply pour the leftover wax into small moulds (e.g. praline moulds).
