How to make Bubble-Candles - Rapeseedwax

Our rapeseed wax 5761 is great for casting standing candles. It is the most commonly used wax for bubble candles & co. Here we explain how to make candles with our Rapeseed Wax 5761.

First, make sure you line the work area with a towel or similar. Prepare everything you need for a water bath, as well as the canola wax, wicks and pre-heated silicone moulds and you're ready to go. You can simply put the moulds on the heater while the wax is melting to preheat them.

We recommend that you start with a small amount - practice makes perfect!

1. melt

Heat the wax to 75 to max 85°C. Stir regularly and slowly while melting. This works best in a water bath. Be careful not to melt the wax too quickly or too hot.

2. add fragrance

If desired, melt the colour (0.1 - 0.2%) or the fragrance (max. 6%) completely in the liquid wax at approx. 80°C and stir carefully. Important: Always colour the wax first before adding fragrance. When colouring, a little trial and error is necessary to achieve the desired colour result. The colour becomes less intense as the wax cools down. By the way, our wax colours are also very suitable for mixing!

Important: Some ingredients of scented oils may react with the crystallisation of natural waxes.

3. pouring

Reduce the temperature slowly to approx. 60-65°C. It is best to use a thermometer to check this. The environment and vessels should not be too cold and the wax should not be too hot. Poke the wicks through the mould with a sewing needle. Do not pour the wax in too quickly. You can easily get rid of air bubbles by tapping the mould lightly on the base in between. To stabilise the wicks as they cool, place a fork over the mould and support the wick (or use a wick holder). 4.

4. pour a second layer

If small cracks or bumps appear, add a thin layer of wax shortly after hardening.

5. cool down

Leave the candles to harden for 12 hours at room temperature. It is best to place them on a cooling grid with sufficient distance between them. Rape wax candles are usually hardened after a few hours, unlike paraffin candles. Nevertheless, we recommend waiting a little longer. You can smooth the bottom side of the candle with a soap plane. 6.

6. give away or light them

The homemade candles are super easy to give to others or you can light them for your own pleasure. If you have used fragrance and still have some wax left over, you can use it to make scented melts - simply pour the leftover wax into small moulds (e.g. praline moulds).
